Dental Implants
A Dental Implant is a titanium screw placed and used to hold a fixed replacement ceramic tooth in position. A ceramic tooth is then fitted to the implant to provide a stable, non-removable solution for a missing tooth.
Once the implant is fitted it becomes stronger over the following weeks. Once it is well established a new ceramic tooth is then placed. In some cases the new tooth can be placed immediately.
There must be adequate bone available for an implant to be recommended. This needs to be assessed.
Most patients have sufficient bone.
95% of implant cases are still present without any problems twenty years after placement. This is one of the most successful dental procedures carried out by dentists.

There are many types of dental implants available. Dr Walsh uses Straumann Implants because of their long-term success and the extensive scientific studies undertaken by the manufacturer. He has over 20 years experience placing these Implants.
Multiple implants may be used to replace more than one tooth at a time. For example, two implants can be used to replace three to five teeth or a full set of teeth can be placed on five or six implants.
A single implant can also be used to help stabilise a denture.
